Head to head

Photomop vs Picsart

One is a focused set of tools that runs on your own machine. The other is a whole creative suite that runs on servers and meters what you do by the credit.

Prices checked 10 August 2026Nothing uploadedSources linked

The short answer

Photomop runs on your own device, so photos are never uploaded and free exports come back at the resolution you brought with no watermark. Picsart is a cloud suite: the free plan gives 5 AI credits a week and 100 MB of storage, a removal costs one credit, and Pro is $15.00 a month.

Key takeaways

  • Picsart processes every image on its servers, while Photomop processes yours in the tab so nothing is uploaded.
  • The Picsart free plan is 5 AI credits a week and 100 MB of storage, and one removal costs one credit.
  • The polished one-step background remover is a paid feature, reached through a seven day trial.
  • Photomop imposes no export cap and adds no watermark, because there is no server cost for us to meter.
  • Picsart Pro is $15.00 a month or $126.00 a year, and Ultra $47.00 a month or $450.00 a year per seat.

What is actually built on our side today

Not every tool in the catalogue has a working page yet: upscale image, remove object and passport photo are still being built. Everything else runs today, on your own device. We put that first rather than at the bottom, because it is the thing most likely to send you to Picsart instead, and you should find it out here rather than after you have opened a tab.

Where does each one process your photo?

Picsart is a cloud suite. You upload a file, their servers run whichever of the models you asked for, and the result comes back down. That is why there is a weekly credit allowance, why storage is metered in gigabytes, and why the better background remover sits on the paid tiers. Every generation and every removal costs Picsart real GPU time.

Photomop works the other way round. The model downloads to your device once, caches there, and runs in the tab through WebGPU where the browser supports it and WebAssembly everywhere else. Your file is read from disk into memory, processed, and written back out as a download. It never reaches a server of ours, which is stronger than a policy promising nobody will look at it.

What does each free plan actually give you?

Picsart's free plan is five AI credits a week and 100 MB of storage. A background removal costs one credit, so that is five cut-outs in a week if you spend the whole allowance on nothing else. The product page is also candid that the advanced one-step remover belongs to Pro and Ultra, and points free users at a seven day trial instead.

Photomop has no weekly allowance, no storage quota and no watermark. The ceiling is your own hardware. On a laptop, a full-size phone photo is routine. On an older phone we run inference at a reduced size and composite the result back onto your untouched full resolution original, so the file you download is still the size you started with.

What does Picsart do that Photomop does not?

A great deal, and pretending otherwise would waste your time. Picsart generates images, enhances them, changes backgrounds, edits video, stores brand kits, runs bulk edits across 50 or 100 images and gives a team its own seats. Ultra lists 140 or more AI models. Photomop is a set of focused tools and has no equivalent to almost any of that.

There is a blunter gap too. Picsart upscales, generates and edits video today and we do not: upscaling, object removal and the passport photo tool do not have a working page yet. If one of those is what you need this week, that is a real argument and this page will not talk you out of it.

Which one costs less over a year?

Picsart Pro is $126.00 a year billed annually, or $180.00 paying monthly. Ultra is $450.00 a year per seat, and the higher credit variants run to $2,400.00 a year for 10,000 credits. Those are suite prices, and against Pixelcut at $10.00 a month or a credit pack from Erase.bg they look expensive if all you wanted was a cut-out.

Photomop is free to use and the paid plan is published at $8 a month, or $5 a month billed yearly, and is not open for purchase yet. Nothing in the toolbox is held back for it. What it adds is unattended batch over a folder, HD background packs and an API, which are the parts that genuinely cost money to run.

Does it matter that Picsart sees your images?

For a holiday photo or a poster you are making for fun, honestly, no. For an unreleased product, a client's campaign shot under an NDA, a scanned document or a photograph of someone who did not agree to it being uploaded, it matters a great deal. The question is not whether a vendor can be trusted with the file, but whether the upload happens at all.

A suite makes that question broader rather than narrower, because more of your work ends up living in it: brand kits, stored assets, a team's whole library. Running on your own device removes the question instead of answering it. You can check ours in about a minute: open your browser's network tab, run one of the working tools, and watch nothing leave.

What each one costs

How much is Photomop against Picsart?

Both ladders in full, monthly and yearly, because the large number on a pricing page is almost always the yearly rate and almost nobody pays it in month one.

Plan by plan pricing for Photomop and Picsart, with what each plan includes

Photomop Free$0 a monthEvery tool at full resolution, with no watermark on the way out

Who should pick Photomop, and who should pick Picsart?

Both columns are the same length on purpose. If ours were twice as long you would be reading an advert.

Photomop

Pick this if the photo should not leave your machine, or you want a full resolution export with no watermark and no weekly credit allowance.

  • Photos are processed on your own device and never uploaded
  • Free exports come back at the resolution you brought, with no watermark
  • No per-image credits and no account as things stand today
Open the toolbox

Picsart

Pick this if you want one subscription covering generation, video, brand kits and team seats, and a cut-out is only part of it.

  • By far the widest toolset here, with Ultra listing 140 or more AI models rather than a single cut-out tool
  • Apps on iOS, Android, Windows and macOS as well as the web, so the same account follows you across devices
  • Brand kits, bulk editing and team seats make it a workable studio for a small marketing team

The honest version

The case against us is short and worth saying out loud: upscale image, remove object and passport photo do not have a working page yet, so those jobs need another tool today, and there is no hosted API today, so a workflow that needs one has to look elsewhere. If either of those is the thing you need this week, Picsart is the better answer today and this page is not going to argue otherwise.

Questions people ask

Photomop and Picsart, answered

The things people search for once they have narrowed it down to these two.

Is the Picsart background remover free?

Only within the free plan's allowance of five AI credits a week, since each removal costs one credit. The advanced one-step remover belongs to Pro and Ultra, and Picsart's own product page directs free users to a seven day trial of a paid plan to use the full tool.

How much does Picsart cost a month?

Pro is $15.00 a month, or $10.50 a month billed annually, which is $126.00 a year. Ultra is $47.00 a month, or $37.50 billed annually at $450.00 a year per seat. Higher credit Ultra tiers run from $75.00 a month up to $250.00 for 10,000 credits.

How many free credits does Picsart give?

Five AI credits a week on the Free plan, alongside 100 MB of storage. A background removal costs one credit, so the weekly allowance covers about five cut-outs if you spend it on nothing else. Credits are also what the image generator and the other AI models draw on.

Does Picsart watermark free exports?

We could not confirm a watermark policy on Picsart's own pages, so this page does not state one either way, and you should check before relying on it. Photomop adds no watermark on any export, at any resolution, on any plan, because there is nothing metered on our side.

Does Photomop upload my photos anywhere?

No. Every tool runs on your own device inside the tab. Your file is read from disk into memory, processed there, and written back out as a download. Nothing is sent to us, which is also why the working tools keep going when your connection drops. Check it in your network tab.

Can Photomop replace Picsart?

Not as a suite. Picsart generates images, edits video, stores brand kits and gives teams seats, and Photomop does none of that. Photomop is a set of focused tools for background removal, resizing, cropping, compressing, converting and batching. Different products, and only one of them keeps your files local.

Try the part that is built

Resize, crop, compress, convert and batch edit all work right now, on your own device, at full resolution and with no watermark. No account, nothing uploaded. Read how the on-device pipeline works if you want to check that claim before you trust it with a client’s photo, or the pricing page for where the paid line falls.
