That focus is a real strength: a tool that does one thing tends to do it consistently, and the desktop applications and API extend the same job to other places.
Photomop is a studio covering background removal, resizing, cropping, compressing, converting, batching and more, all of it on your own hardware. The honest position, undressed: upscaling, object removal and the passport photo tool do not have a working page yet, so if the job is an enlargement or a stray object rather than a cut-out, Removal.AI is not the answer either and something else is.
Removal.AI lets you run the tool without a signup or an account, which more vendors should do. The limit sits at the download: free downloads are capped at 0.25 megapixels and are for personal use. That is roughly a 500 by 500 pixel image, which is enough to check the cut-out is good and not enough to use anywhere real.

Their API documentation describes throughput of up to 500 images a minute, which is server capacity rather than anything happening on your machine, and the Windows and macOS applications are front ends to the same service. So every image you cut out is uploaded, processed elsewhere and returned to you.
Photomop reads the file from disk into the tab's memory, runs the work on your own hardware and writes the result back out. Nothing is uploaded on any tool or any plan, and you can confirm it in your browser's network tab in about a minute. For a product photo that rarely matters. For anything under an embargo it matters a great deal.
It depends entirely on volume, because these are priced on different axes. At a hundred cut-outs a year, a lifetime pack at a few dollars is very hard to beat and a subscription would be waste. At several thousand a year, the per-image cost accumulates into real money even at $0.03, and a flat plan starts to look better.
