Faire image requirements for wholesale brands

Every one of the 8 image rules below comes off a page Faire publishes, with the source linked.

8 image rules8 read at FaireChecked 10 August 2026

The short answer

Faire requires square product photos with a minimum size of 500 by 500 pixels, supplied as PNG or JPEG. Hero images should be 600 by 600 pixels or higher, cropped with the product centred and filling the tile, on a clean light background where white works best, with no text overlay, watermark or logo. Apparel uses a 4:3 portrait ratio at 1800 by 2400 pixels.

What Faire asks for

Every row states where it comes from. A rule read off a page Faire publishes is marked as a primary source; a figure that circulates among sellers without appearing in the platform’s own documentation is marked and hedged, and it is never printed as though the two carry the same weight.

Why this matters on Faire

Faire is a wholesale marketplace, so your images are read by a shop buyer deciding whether to stock you, not a consumer buying one unit. That buyer scans a grid of tiles and opens maybe six. A hero image with the product floating small inside white padding loses that scan.

There is also a review layer. Faire's design team approves feature image requests and quotes 5 to 7 business days, so a rejected feature image is a week added to your brand page going live.

The trap that catches most brands is that Faire publishes two opposite background rules for two slots. The hero image on a product listing wants a clean, light background, and Faire says white works best. The feature image that represents your brand wants visual context, and Faire explicitly says avoid plain white. Read one article and not the other and you submit a whole set on the wrong background.

The walkthrough

How do you get a photo through Faire?

6 things in order, each one answering a question a seller actually types.

  1. Is your product photo square, and how big?

Faire's product photos are square. The published minimum is 500 x 500 pixels, while the listing checklist asks for 600 x 600 pixels or higher. Use 600 as your working floor and go beyond it, since 2000 x 2000 survives zoom. Crop to square rather than stretching. Apparel is the exception, taking 4:3 portrait at 1800 x 2400 pixels.

  2. Does the product fill the tile?

Faire's hero guidance is direct: crop with the product centred, and zoom in so the product fills the tile. Padded margins and collages are both called out. In a wholesale grid the tile is small, so a product occupying 40 percent of the frame disappears. Crop tight and never combine several shots into one tile.

  3. Which background belongs in which slot?

Run two separate presets. For the hero and product images, use a clean light background, with white the safest choice. For the feature image that fronts your brand, do the opposite: give it visual context, show the product in use, and avoid plain white. Faire also wants a single image there rather than a collage.

Photomop is a photo studio that runs on your own device, and the remove-background tool produces the clean white hero from the same source file you keep for the feature slot.

  4. Have you stripped every overlay?

Faire disallows text overlay, watermarks and logos on hero images, and states that feature images must not include any words, watermarks or logos. That includes the discount badges and new flashes that wholesale brands often bake into images for their own site. Strip them before upload. Your brand logo belongs in the logo slot at 248 x 248, not burned into a product tile.

  5. Is the set complete for the listing?

At least one product photo is required, but Faire says listings perform best with at least two. Cover front, back and side angles, add one image per variant plus swatches, include packaging imagery because the buyer is picturing it on a shelf, and add a lifestyle shot. Listings with video see roughly a 15 to 20 percent lift in conversion.

  6. Are the files named and exported correctly?

Export as PNG or JPEG. Faire asks that all photos are labelled by product name or SKU, which matters on a bulk catalogue where nobody can match an untitled file to a spreadsheet row. Fix the brand assets too: profile image 1080 x 1080, logo 248 x 248, cover 4400 x 1000.

The settings, in one place

The Photomop preset for Faire

Crop to a 1:1 square with the product centred and filling most of the frame, leaving only a small even margin, then export at 2000 by 2000 as JPEG or PNG, which clears Faire's 500 pixel minimum and the 600 pixel checklist floor. For apparel, switch the crop to 4:3 portrait and export at 1800 by 2400.

Crop image runs on your own device, at full resolution, with no watermark on the export.

What goes wrong on Faire

Every one of these is a real rejection or a real drop in placement, not a matter of taste.

  1. Using plain white for the brand feature image, when Faire asks for visual context there and reserves white for the hero.

  2. Letting a rectangular photo stretch into the square tile instead of cropping to 1:1.

  3. Leaving generous white padding around a small product so it vanishes in the browse grid.

  4. Baking a logo or price badge into the hero image, which Faire prohibits on hero and feature images alike.

  5. Submitting apparel as a square when Faire specifies 4:3 portrait at 1800 by 2400 pixels.

  6. Uploading files named IMG_4471 rather than by product name or SKU, which stalls a bulk submission.

Questions sellers ask

Faire image requirements, answered

The questions people search for once a photo has already been refused.

What size should Faire product images be?

Faire states product photos should be square with a minimum of 500 by 500 pixels, while its listing checklist asks for 600 by 600 or higher. Apparel is the exception and uses a 4:3 portrait ratio at an optimal 1800 by 2400 pixels.

Does Faire require a white background?

For the hero image, Faire says to use a clean, light background and that white backgrounds work best. For the brand feature image the advice is the reverse: provide visual context and avoid plain white. The two slots have different jobs.

What file formats does Faire accept?

PNG or JPEG. Faire's wording is that all picture files must be in PNG or JPEG format, not HTML. No maximum file size is published, so keep files sensible: a 2000 by 2000 JPEG at high quality is a reasonable upper bound.

How many photos should a Faire listing have?

At least one product photo is required, and Faire recommends at least two. Beyond that, add front, back and side angles, one image per variant plus swatches, packaging imagery, and a lifestyle shot. Faire reports listings with video see about a 15 to 20 percent lift in conversion.

Can I put text or a logo on a Faire image?

No. Faire asks you to remove any text overlay, watermark or logo from the hero image, and states that feature images must not include any words, watermarks or logos. Promotional badges from your own website need removing before upload.

How long does a Faire feature image take to approve?

Faire quotes 5 to 7 business days for its design team to review a new feature image request. That review sits between you and your brand page going live, so get the background, the crop and the no text rule right first time.
