Wayfair image requirements for suppliers

4 of the 6 image rules below come off pages Wayfair publishes. The rest say plainly where they came from.

6 image rules4 read at WayfairChecked 10 August 2026

The short answer

Wayfair requires product images of at least 1000 by 1000 pixels to be featured, and asks for three or more clear images per product. Wayfair recommends 2000 by 2000 pixels so every detail shows, and a mix of silo and environmental shots. Wayfair does not publish a background colour or file format rule on any publicly reachable page.

What Wayfair asks for

Every row states where it comes from. A rule read off a page Wayfair publishes is marked as a primary source; a figure that circulates among sellers without appearing in the platform’s own documentation is marked and hedged, and it is never printed as though the two carry the same weight.

Wayfair image requirements: minimum image resolution, recommended resolution, number of images per product, shot types, primary silo background, file format, colour space and maximum file size
RequirementWhat Wayfair asks forWhere it comes from
Minimum image resolutionAt least 1,000 x 1,000 pixelsWayfair's wording is that images need to be at least 1,000 x 1,000 pixels to be featured on Wayfair.Primary source
Recommended resolution2,000 x 2,000 pixelsWayfair states that photos at 2,000 x 2,000 pixels will highlight every detail. This is a recommendation, not a floor.Primary source
Number of images per product3 or more clear images per product, each at 1000 x 1000 px or higherWayfair's Imagery 101 guide separately suggests at least two to start, then more to help the product stand out. The onboarding checklist is the stricter of the two.Primary source
Shot typesA mix of environmental and silo shots. Wayfair describes five imagery types: single product silhouette (silo), zoomed in environmental, zoomed out environmental, functional, and dimensional.Primary source
Primary silo backgroundPure white for the hero silo shotReported by sellers and by support documentation. Wayfair does not state this figure on a page we could read, so treat it as a working number rather than a rule.Wayfair does not state a background colour on any publicly reachable page. Third party supplier guides report pure white for the hero image, and Wayfair's own live category grids are consistently white behind silo shots. Treat this as convention, and confirm against the asset spec inside your partner portal.Reported
File format, colour space and maximum file sizeNot published on any publicly reachable Wayfair pageWe could not confirm this at any source we trust, and Wayfair does not publish it. It is here because the claim circulates, not because we can stand behind it.The detailed asset specification sits inside the supplier portal at partners.wayfair.com, which returns 403 to anyone without a supplier login. Standard practice is high quality JPEG in sRGB. Confirm before a bulk upload rather than assuming.Unconfirmed

Slide the table sideways to see every column.

  • Primary source means the value is read off a page Wayfair publishes, linked under Sources below. 4 of 6 rows here are primary.
  • Reported means sellers and support documentation agree on the figure but Wayfair does not state it anywhere we could read. 1 row is reported.
  • Unconfirmed means the claim circulates and we could not stand it up at any source. 1 row is unconfirmed, and it is labelled that way in the table rather than left to look like the rest.
  • Platforms change these rules without announcing them. Every source below carries the date it was read, and the figures here were checked on 10 August 2026.

Why this matters on Wayfair

Wayfair sells large, expensive, hard to picture objects. A buyer cannot judge whether a sideboard fits a hallway from a thumbnail, so images below the bar do not simply look worse, they stop the product being featured. Wayfair's wording is that images need to be at least 1,000 by 1,000 pixels to be featured, which is a placement rule, not a quality note.

Missing the three image minimum has a similar effect. Wayfair reorders your images to lead with the features customers look for most, and that only helps if there is a range of shots to choose from.

The honest complication is that Wayfair publishes far less than most marketplaces. Its public seller pages give the pixel minimum, the image count and the recommended shot mix. They do not give a background colour rule, a file format, a colour space or a maximum file size. Those sit in the supplier portal, which returns 403 without supplier credentials. Any page quoting an exact Wayfair hex code or MB ceiling is repeating convention rather than a published rule. Pull the asset spec from your own portal before a bulk upload.

The walkthrough

How do you get a photo through Wayfair?

5 things in order, each one answering a question a seller actually types.

  1. Are your images past 1000 pixels, and ideally past 2000?

1,000 x 1,000 is the floor to be featured. 2,000 x 2,000 is what Wayfair recommends so every detail shows. That gap matters for furniture, because shoppers zoom into fabric weave, wood grain and hardware finish before a large purchase. If your originals sit below the floor, upscale rather than upload a stretched file.

  2. Do you have at least three images, in the right mix?

Wayfair asks for 3 or more clear images per product, and names five imagery types worth covering:

    • Single product silhouette (silo), the product alone on a plain ground
    • Zoomed in environmental, a detail shot in a styled setting
    • Zoomed out environmental, the full room so scale reads
    • Functional, drawers open, sofa reclined
    • Dimensional, measurements shown on the product

Vary angle and setting rather than shooting the same view five times.

  3. Is the silo shot actually clean?

Wayfair does not publish a background hex value publicly, but the silo convention across its category grids is a plain white ground with the product cleanly cut out and no visible floor line, prop or shadow spill. Shoot on white if you can. If your originals are room shots, isolate the product rather than uploading a cropped environmental image as the hero.

Photomop is a photo studio that runs on your own device, and the remove-background tool produces a clean silo from a room shot when a reshoot is not practical.

  4. Do the environmental shots communicate scale?

A zoomed out environmental shot with a recognisable reference in frame, a door, a rug, a standard height table, tells the buyer whether the piece fits. Wayfair's dimensional shot type does the same job by putting measurements on the image. Between them they answer the question that drives furniture returns: will it fit.

  5. Have you pulled the asset spec from your supplier portal?

Before a bulk upload, log into the supplier portal and find the current asset specification for file format, colour space and maximum file size. Do not take those numbers from a blog, including this one. In the meantime, high quality JPEG in sRGB is the safe default, and it is what Wayfair's own product pages serve.

The settings, in one place

The Photomop preset for Wayfair

Take any product photo below Wayfair's 1,000 pixel floor and upscale it to 2,000 by 2,000, which is the size Wayfair recommends so every detail shows, then export high quality JPEG in sRGB. Run it across the whole product set so the silo and environmental shots match in size.

Upscale image is part of the studio and its own page is still in progress, so this link opens the toolbox.

What goes wrong on Wayfair

Every one of these is a real rejection or a real drop in placement, not a matter of taste.

  1. Uploading images at 800 by 800 because they looked fine on your own site, missing Wayfair's 1,000 pixel floor.

  2. Shipping a single silo image per product when the onboarding checklist asks for three or more.

  3. Using a cropped room photograph as the hero, so the product sits against a half visible wall instead of a clean silo.

  4. Shooting five near identical sofa angles and calling it a set, with no dimensional or functional shot.

  5. Skipping the zoomed out environmental shot on large furniture, which leaves buyers guessing at scale.

  6. Copying an exact background hex code or file size ceiling from a third party guide, when Wayfair publishes neither publicly.

Questions sellers ask

Wayfair image requirements, answered

The questions people search for once a photo has already been refused.

What is Wayfair's minimum image size?

Wayfair states that images need to be at least 1,000 by 1,000 pixels to be featured on Wayfair, and recommends 2,000 by 2,000 pixels so every detail shows. The onboarding checklist repeats that floor alongside a requirement for three or more clear images per product.

How many images does Wayfair require per product?

Wayfair's onboarding checklist asks for 3 or more clear images per product. Its Imagery 101 guide is softer, suggesting at least two to start. Treat three as the working minimum, and cover silo, environmental, functional and dimensional shots.

Does Wayfair require a white background?

Wayfair does not publish a background colour rule on any publicly reachable page. Its seller documentation covers pixel size, image count and shot types only. Pure white is the convention across Wayfair's silo shots and what third party guides report, but the binding rule, if there is one, sits behind the supplier login.

What file format does Wayfair accept?

Wayfair does not state a file format, colour space or maximum file size on any page reachable without a supplier login. The asset specification sits inside the partner portal, which returns a 403 without credentials. High quality JPEG in sRGB is the safe default, but confirm in your own portal first.

What is a silo image on Wayfair?

A silo, short for single product silhouette, is the product photographed on its own against a plain ground. It is one of five imagery types Wayfair names, alongside zoomed in environmental, zoomed out environmental, functional and dimensional. Wayfair recommends a mix rather than either alone.

Does Wayfair reorder my product images?

Yes. Wayfair optimises image order for each product to show off the features customers look for most. That only works in your favour if you supply a varied set, so include scale, function and detail shots rather than several versions of the same angle.
